I am looking forward to this year’s Herefordshire Art Week h.Art which runs from 6 – 16 September. I have planned to spend a day with a friend visiting the workshops of artists new to me. Unfortunately, being in Worcestershire, I am not eligible to take part by opening my own studio, but a few fellow makers are involved.
One is Jenny Pearce from Canon Frome who makes baskets from willow. I was lucky enough to lay my hands on a beautiful basket at the private view of her recent exhibition. I love the colours which are the natural hues of the individual willows and not dyed.
Another is Nancy Sutcliffe, who will be exhibiting as part of the Open Exhibition at Hereford Museum and Art Gallery from 6 – 23 September. I commissioned this vase a few years ago featuring one of my favourite flowers, the snake’s head fritillary. Her current work incorporates etching in place of hand-painting and more figurative designs.
I even managed to grow my own this year. Aren’t they gorgeous?
