Three blooms, three vases this week.  Burgundy in all its forms has always been one of my favourite colours and I adore the richness of these Knautia macedonica – a member of the scabious family.


Their globular flower heads punctuate the border with full stops of deep colour.


I like the tufty bits (what are they called?) and the long stems.


From below they look like raspberries, almost good enough to eat.


In silhouette they remind me of fireworks high in the sky.
