I have just spent a wonderful day with Sharon McSwiney and Jo Dewar – the first of our creative play dates.  Sharon agreed to teach us some of her metalwork techniques and Jo and I had great fun with cutters, hammers, flux and flame in her studio at The Fold which is in Bransford near Worcester.

It was such a treat to work creatively with unfamiliar materials and I was chuffed to bits to come away with two pieces of my own hand-made jewellery – a pendant and a brooch.  Sharon had lots of lovely etched treasures she generously let us use, so credit goes to her for the little snippets of brass featuring her leaf and flower drawings.  I just came up with the design and soldered the components together.

My-pendant My-brooch

Jo made two elaborate square pieces which she linked together.  She hadn’t decided their function, but I tried to convince her they’d look great as a pendant.  Here she is checking out my idea in the mirror.

Thanks Sharon for giving up so much of your precious time and expertise (especially as she is busy preparing for the Contemporary Craft Fair at Bovey Tracey later this week).

I can’t wait until our next session at Jo’s studio next month.
