I first saw Tim Harding’s work behind the reception desk at Discovery Cove in Orlando last year.  The piece was a triptych commissioned from his Water Series.  It was stunning.

I loved the colours, the texture and the depth.  It perfectly suited its environment.

The staff were more than happy for me to get up close and photograph it; the texture really drew you in.

I was intrigued to find he uses the same technique as I do – namely reverse appliqué.  Whereas I layer, stitch and cut neat, precise lines in paper, Tim Harding folds and slashes layers of silk in a complex self-developed free style.  He creates impressionist paintings with fabric.  Brilliant!

I received an email today from L’attitude Gallery in Boston, MA about an exhibition called ‘Off the Wall’ which features Tim’s work.  It opens 11 October to 30 November at 218 Newbury Street, Boston, MA 02116. There is also an Artist Reception on Sunday October 12 from 3-6pm, what a pity I am over 3000 miles away!  If you get to visit the exhibition do let us know what you thought of it.

See more of Tim Harding’s wonderful use of colour and texture here and here and visit his own website here.
